We’ve redesigned our flagship BF250, BF225, and BF200 models inside and out, adding features, updates and
improvements that make these acclaimed V6 outboards better than ever. From easier maintenance to tougher
corrosion resistance, the new BF250, BF225, and BF200 outboards take legendary Honda performance into new waters.
Of course, we’ve kept the famous technological advances Honda outboard owners love, many of which are shared with Honda’s renowned automobile engines. BF225 and BF250 models include VTEC® for explosive mid-range torque. All three models feature:
The redesigned BF200, 225, and 250 feature the sleek styling of our Progressive V Form design. This new, aerodynamic exterior increases engine cover durability, improves safeguards that help prevent water from entering the engine, and helps protect against paint chipping and scraping.
Common maintenance items have been redesigned or repositioned. Improvements such as a larger diameter dipstick tube, integration of a water separator and fuel strainer, and the relocation of the high-pressure filter (from the high-pressure pump) for easier access reduce maintenance time for routine tasks like oil and filter changes. And easier maintenance means more time on the water.
Components such as the oil pan, thermostat cover, upper mount cover, water pump housing, timing belt tensioner base, water jacket cover, and prop shaft holder now use a higher corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy, resulting in a more durable engine and gear case. Bolts and brackets are treated with a new HI-M coating that delivers improved surface finishing and superior corrosion resistance. The number of anodes on each engine block has been doubled, from two to four, for longer anode life and improved corrosion protection.
The three-latch lock and seal system and two inverted grip points make the cover easy to remove and carry, simplifying maintenance access. The streamlined, simplified undercase includes a heavy protective rubber edge that further protects against the elements, boosting durability.
The new cowling incorporates a dual channel, indirect-air-circuit induction system that improves airflow, enhancing performance while helping funnel moisture away from the throttle body.
Boaters who prefer traditional controls will take a purist’s pleasure in Honda’s smooth operating mechanical command and control system. Its reliable design delivers the responsiveness and feel traditionalists love. Our mechanical control supports up to two engines and a single-helm location as well as a side-mount configuration.
Boosted Low Speed Torque, or BLAST, improves acceleration at low speeds. A quick movement of the throttle control activates the BLAST® system, advancing the ignition curve aggressively. "Hole Shot" is vastly improved as more horsepower gets the hull up on plane quicker.Learn More
Honda’s Variable Valve Timing & Lift Electronic Control (VTEC®) system provides power where and when you need it. Available on the BF225 and BF250, VTEC gives you a broader, flatter torque curve and smooth power delivery throughout the engine’s operating range. The result is a superior combination of power, torque and fuel economy. VTEC is the modern replacement for displacement.Learn More
Lean Burn Control® increases fuel efficiency by allowing combustion to operate on a leaner air/fuel mixture. At cruising speed, this engine runs on up to 20% less fuel* than others in its class.
*Based on EPA Specific Fuel Consumption Mode.
The BF200, 225, and 250 offer an industry-first feature, AMP+. At idle, when the engine senses a need for additional amperage, AMP+ automatically increases the rpm’s by 100 to produce an additional 9 amps. AMP+ helps prevent the draining of critical battery power when using multiple accessories, a concern when you’re fishing miles offshore.
The charging system features a 90 amp "On Demand" belt-driven alternator with 60 charging amps. This superior design reduces heat buildup and provides outstanding battery charging across the RPM range.Learn More
NMEA 2000 protocols allow engine data to be interfaced with on-board systems and systems displays, such as SONAR or GPS.
A patented, "Double Sealed" multi-layered paint process. Sacrificial anodes and stainless steel technology, along with waterproof connectors, all enhance corrosion protection.Learn More
The BF250 offers a choice of white and silver models to complement your boat.
The BF200, 225, and 250 share many components with the Honda Ridgeline, Odyssey, Honda Pilot, Accord, and Acura RL, gaining years of proven Honda engineering, precision manufacturing and reliability.
A powerful, compact 24 valve SOHC design, without the bulk and weight of long intake runners and multi-camshafts. The narrow V6 design offers top performance and durability as well as great fuel economy.
The BF200, 225, and 250 are the quietest outboards in their class. Meaning you get to enjoy more of the great outdoors, and less engine noise.
Programmed Fuel Injection delivers the precise amount of fuel/air to each cylinder. The result is easy starts and instant throttle response with superior fuel efficiency.
The BF200, 225, and 250 feature an all new high performance gear case designed to withstand the extreme duty cycles of law enforcement and military patrol boats. This combined with a new gear reduction ratio (2.00:1) and large range of propellers (up to 16 inch diameter) provides high levels of all around performance.
Honda's True 5 Warranty is the best in the business. This transferable, non-declining warranty is the same on the last day as it is on the first. Learn More
The technologically-advanced Electronic Control Unit (ECU) in the Honda BF200, 225, and 250 can predict the operator’s shifting operation based on changes in engine speed and throttle position. In order to reduce the shifting load, the ECU actually controls the ignition timing to modify torque when the operator shifts from partial to neutral.
The ECM monitors vital engine functions and prevents engine damage by alerting the operator of:
The unique cooling system maintains an even temperature on all cylinders. The incoming water passes through each aluminum exhaust manifold, then through the cylinder heads and back around the exhaust manifolds before entering the exhaust. This results in increased cooling efficiency and long-term durability!
A crankshaft-driven, automotive-style trochoid oil pump ensures long-term durability of critical engine components.
The starter motor is inverted into a sealed chamber that protects the starter drive from the elements.
Flushes debris and saltwater out of the engine, extending the life of the outboard.
Stainless steel components provide durability with long-term corrosion resistance.
Improves efficiency, hull maneuverability and decreases driver fatigue.
Environmentally conscious technology. All Honda Marine engines exceed the highest CARB 3-Star rating to meet the rigorous California Air Resource Board's standards.
Built-in pitot tube in the gear case eliminates the need to drill holes in your boat for speedometer installation.
World-renowned Honda quality combines proven reliability and superior fuel efficiency, with no oil mixing.
